Psychotherapy is a similar process to counselling but one that goes deeper into the nature of ourselves and therefore requires more time and greater commitment. Outer problems and symptoms, particularly those that tend to repeat themselves in chronic or distressing ways, are often expressions of deeper-seated issues within ourselves that we have been unable to resolve. The relationship with the therapist offers the opportunity to discover, explore and understand our “inner” landscape in new ways which can lead to greater freedom and more realistic and creative ways of relating to the ‘outer’ world.
